L a u r a N e e s e - Dance Artist, Choreographer, & Educator

I am a dancer-performer-creator-explorer interested in the learning process: the articulation, reception and processing of information - kinesthetic, visual, literal, poetic, or otherwise

Laura Neese, a Staten Island native, developed a love for dance under the guidance and friendship of Rosemary Cappozalo.

Laura has worked with artists including Darrah Carr, Suiso Maho Ogawa, Sean Curran, Christopher Caines, Melissa West, Chia Yiing Kao, Shawna Emerick, and Vanessa Voskuil, among others.  She regularly performs with Darrah Carr Dance, and Suisoco., co-directs KitchenSink Collective , and presents her own work.

Laura's interest in collaborative arts has led to projects with theatre artists, poets, photographers, video artsits, and musicians.  Recent collaborators include Lana Stafford (flutist,-Syracuse,NY), Sarah Yuster (painter- Staten Island, NY), Rosita Roldan, (photographer- Staten Island, NY), IPA - Institute for Psychogeographic Adventure -Theatre Company (NYC), Michael Miles (motion capture artist- NC), Buffalo Contemporary Ensemble, & BABEL Vocal Ensemble (Buffalo,NY).

You may find Laura teaching topics from pirouettes to pythagorean triples while triangulating the beautiful, fascinating, disgusting region known as the greater New York City Area.

Dancing should be a joy, and elevating for the body, mind, spirit, and imagination. I believe technique and creativity go best hand in hand.

All classes focus on healthy alignment, clean technique, creativity, and teamwork, as well as an understanding of the cultural/historical context of the discipline being studied. Laura strives to promote positive environments to deepen each student's dance experience, as they learn to appreciate the many possibilities of movement, and in turn the astounding potential within themselves.
